TRAINING
The training provided by GLS Training Solutions will teach you a wide range of skills and knowledge which you will need in order to become a safe and competent gas engineer. The course is delivered at our Birmingham based training centre.
This course has been designed to cover all the theory and practical knowledge that you will require such as:
Safety, legislation and standards
Gas emergency actions and procedures
Products and characteristics of natural gas
Ventilation for domestic gas burning appliances
Installation of pipework and fittings
Tightness testing and purging
Checking and setting appliance burner pressures and gas rates
Checking and/or setting meter regulators
Re-establish existing gas supply and re-light appliances
Operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls
Chimney standards, installation, inspection and testing
Gas rates / Heat inputs
Gas safety controls
Combustion Performance Analysis
Flueing
Appliance installation and servicing
There will be written and practical assessments throughout the training period. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be provided with a UK Certification Portfolio along with guidance on filling in the portfolio.
PORTFOLIO
Following completion of the in-house training, you will be deemed competent to undertake supervised gas work in the workplace. You will do this by working alongside a Gas Safe Registered Engineer who acts as your on-site recorder/verifier, helping you to build a portfolio of evidence and prove your competence and safety working with Gas.
You will undertake a vast range of gas work on multiple appliances to meet the requirements of the portfolio. You will receive guidance throughout on how the portfolio evidence should be recorded and completed.
GLS Training Solutions will place you with a Gas Safe registered Engineer if required and there may be extra costs for this service.
ACS ASSESSMENT
Once the portfolio has been completed, that will complete the Managed Learning Programme (MLP), which is the pre-requisite for undertaking the ACS assessment.
You will have a range of appliances that you can choose to undertake as part of your ACS assessments as well as the compulsory core element.
